A&M Hymn #61: Christians, awake, salute the happy morn

Complete lyrics, stanzas, and pipe organ accompaniment • Hymns Ancient & Modern

1
Christians, awake, salute' the
Whereon the Saviour of the world
Rise to adore the mystery of love.
Which hosts of Angels chanted from
2
above;
With them the joyful tidings first
begun
Of God Incarnate and the Virgin's
3
Then to the watchful shepherds it was
Who heard the Angelic herald's voice,
" Behold,
I bring good tidings of a Saviour's
4
To you and all the nations upon
earth :
This day hath God fulfuTd His pro-
sed word.
5
This day is born a Saviour, Christ
the Lord."
He spake : and straightway the celes-
tial choir
6
In hymns of joy, unknown before,
onspire :
The praises of redeeming love they
And Heav'n's whole orb with Alle-
7
luias rang:
God's highest glory was their anthem
Peace
good will.
8
To Bethlehem straight the en-
lighten'd shepherds ran,
To see the wonder God had wrought
or man,
9
And found, with Joseph and the
Blessed Maid,
Her Son, the Saviour, in a manger
Then to their flocks, still praising
10
God, return,
And their glad hearts with holy rap-
ture burn.
0 may we keep and ponder in our
11
God's wondrous love in saving lost
Trace we the Babe.W ho hath retrieved
our loss,
From His poor manger to His bitter
12
Tread in His steps, assisted by His
grace,
Till man's first heavenly state again
takes place.
13
Then may we hope, the Angelic
hosts among.
To sing, redeem'd, a glad triumphal
He that was born upon this ioyful day
Saved by His love, incessant we shall
Eternal praise to Heav'n's Aim: hty
13
Amen.
