A&M Hymn #357: How blessed, from the bonds of sin

Complete lyrics, stanzas, and pipe organ accompaniment • Hymns Ancient & Modern

1
How once the King of glorv
Came down on earth to dwell.
I am both weak and sinful,
But this I surely know.
The Lord came down to save me,
Because He loved me so.
1 love to hear the story
Which Angel voices tell.
2
How once the King of glory
Came down oa eaxth to dwell.
I'm glad my Blessed Saviour
Was once a Child like me.
To show how pure and holy
His little ones might be ;
And if I try to follow
His footsteps here below,
3
He never will forget me,
Because He loves me so.
I love to hear the story
Which Angel voices tell,
How once the King of glory
Came down on earth to dwell.
To sing His love and mercy
My sweetest songs I'll raise :
4
And though I cannot see Him
I know He Hears my praise ;
For He has kindly promised
That even I may go
To sing among His Angels,
Because He loves me so.
I love to hear the story
Which Angel voices tell,
5
" Even a child is known by his doing*?'
•mf Wk are but little children weak,
Nor born in any high estate :
What can we do for Jesus' sake,
Who is so High and Godd and Great?
We know the Holy Innocents
Laid down for Him their infant life,
And Martyrs brave.and patient Saints
6
Have stood for Him in tire and strife.
We wear the cross they wore of old,
Our lips have learn'd like vows to
ake ;
What may we do for Jesus' sake ?
A death to die, for Jesus' sake,
A weary war to wage with sin.
When deep within our swelling
7
hearts
thoughts of pride and anger rise,
When bitter words are on our tongues,
And tears of passion in our eyes ;
Then we may stay the angry blow.
Then we may check the hasty word,
And fight a battle for our Lokd.
With smiles of peace, and looks of
8
Light in our dwellings we may make,
Bid kind good humour brighten there,
P And still do all for Jesus' sake.
FOR THE YOUNG.
There's not a child so small and I
Biit has his little cross to take,
Hi- little work of love and praise
7- lhat He may do lor Jesis sake.
8
Amen.
